Vic and Karen were a special treat for Bobbie and I, as they closely shared our own healthy nutritional lifestyle. We met these two very lovely (and loving) folks at the 2nd International Whole Foods Plant Based Nutrition Conference in San Diego in September 2014, where they made a successful silent auction bid for a week aboard Bel Ami, which was the grand prize of the conference. Once again we enjoyed very favorable winds that blew us almost effortlessly around the islands, with stops at Sandy Cay, Cane Garden Bay, Monkey Point, Gorda Sound (Mocko Jumbies at Leverick Bay, and lunch at Oil Nut Bay—great drinks by Lennox, the ultimate drinkmaster), the Baths, Cooper Island, Salt Island, Wreck of the Rhone, Peter Island, and St. John. Vic and Karen snorkeled to their hearts content, kayaked around, did some great hikes (best hike ever on Salt Island), enjoyed a couple’s massage, and enjoyed the ultimate in rest and relaxation aboard Bel Ami. Vic, who like Captain Dave is a physician, is also a medical expert on hyperlipidemia (too much cholesterol and fat in the blood), gave Captain Dave almost daily continuing medical education sessions on this important topic, with some interesting and stimulating conversation about it all. Not sure if we solved the health care crisis and epidemics of obesity, heart disease, diabetes, etc., but we had a good time eating, drinking and making merry. Even Admiral Bobbie Rae (aka “Bob”—her new nickname) kept up with some of the medical conversation and says she wasn’t bored by the conversation. After their week aboard, they remained on St. Thomas for a couple weeks meeting family and friends before flying back to the West Coast to resume life in the real world.
