Honeymooner’s from Texas, Denay and David, joined the Admiral and I aboard Bel Ami in early July for a week’s voyage. After an airport pickup and island tour (Mountain Top Banana Daiquiris and Hull Bay music) we overnighted at Christmas Cove and then sailed south of Little St. James Island into the Caribbean, which was showing its teeth, then north to Caneel Bay. We then got into the Beladingy and motored around the point into Hawknest Bay, where we snorkeled the fabulous garden of elk horn coral. Party animals that they are, we ended up in Cruz Bay at Carnival village and the Beach Bar, moving to the sounds of a great carnival band and a “looper.” Next day, forgoing the Carnival parade, we sailed over to Leinster Bay in big wind for a quite berth by Watermelon (aka Waterlemon) Cay, where we had an ultimate snorkel. Admiral Bobbie Rae finally saw a black and white spotted eel. Denay and David hiked up to the ruins overlooking the bay, had a BBQ dinner, the they retired to the aft cabin to watch Captain Ron. Next day took us to Soper’s Hole to check into the BVI, then we had a great sail to the Bight on Norman Island, where we snorkeled the Caves, dinner at Pirates Bight and then party at the Willi T with a “Shotski.” Long sail the next day to Gorda Sound, played at the SandBox beach bar and fed the Tarpon at Saba Rock. Next morning we rented a car and enjoyed the incredible views of Virgin Gorda, taking in the Bathes as well as Hog Heaven. From Gorda Sound we sailed to Cane Garden Bay via the Camanoe Passages, then on to Jost Van Dyke for Painkillers and Junglewackers at Hendo’s Hideaway and the Soggy Dollar Bar. On to Great Harbor where Denay and David enjoyed a last night honeymoon dinner at Corsairs, checked out Foxy’s, then back to Bel Ami for a night sail back to St. Thomas. Another uniquely fabulous time aboard Bel Ami, reminding Admiral Bobbie Rae and I just why we do this thing!!
